I was thinking about how I can advertise about my services specially when all the mainstream media are so costly and I can't afford to spend my meager advertising fund on them.
Hence I stumbled upon few ideas, which might just work. Let me see how many ideas I can gather and then I will try to execute them on the ground, after all a great idea is nothing without execution.
So, here are the ideas.
1. Approach the local newspaper-wala and convince him to distribute your leaflet, pamphlet or brochure etc along with his newspapers.
• Advantage: Very cost effective. Targeted to a specific locality,
• Disadvantage: Can’t think of any, please let me know, if you know anything
NB: always staple it on the bottom right hand corner of the news paper, which is anyway mostly used for advertising only. So basically you are getting the same mileage as the guy who has paid for the advertisement in the front page but on a limited area.

2. Tie up with your local courier delivery boys. This is effective when you want to target a specific area or an institutions etc. Now, this is almost similar to the above idea. Let’s say you want to target the population of a specific PIN code (ZIP Code for US), ask the courier boy to attach one of your literature to the parcel for a small fee. This is effective when you target a very specific group. Let’s say there is a big factory in your area and you want to target the workers working there, then you can try this technique out.

Similar technique could be tried with Pizza delivery boys and anyone else, who deliver goods or services door to door.
Now, here is the 3rd idea. In India, in every locality there are some well known landmarks. These land mark includes, may be a grocery store or some other things like that. Try to place your banner or other publicity material there. It will result in maximum eyeball at minimum cost. You can have pact with the owner of that place to share your revenue, in case he generates any business for you.
